General nutrition information

Food, recipe and nutrition information on this site is general and educational. It is not personalized dietary advice and does not replace guidance from a registered dietitian or your doctor.

Things to check first

  • Allergies and intolerances. Recipes and ideas may contain ingredients you need to avoid. Check every ingredient and label.
  • Other conditions. If you have diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, an eating disorder, are pregnant or have another medical condition or special diet, talk to your healthcare team before making changes.
  • Medicines. Some foods and drinks, including alcohol, can interact with medicines. Check with your pharmacist or doctor.
  • Surgeon’s instructions. Always follow the dietary instructions you were given after surgery.

Numbers are approximate

Where we mention fat or other nutrient amounts, they are approximate and can vary by brand, ingredient and portion. Nutrition labels are the best guide for packaged foods, and our tools and calculators are for rough organization only.

No promises

We do not claim that any food, diet, recipe or eating pattern will treat, cure or prevent any condition or symptom. People respond differently, and research on diet after gallbladder removal is limited and mixed.

Food safety

Follow safe food handling. For leftovers, the USDA advises refrigerating cooked food within 2 hours, eating it within 3 to 4 days, and reheating to 165°F (74°C).
